The Lowdown on Waxing Down Below

The Lowdown on Waxing Down Below

Anyone who has had a bikini wax will tell you that their first wax was a scary experience. There are so many unknowns. Will she see me fully bare down there? Will she wear gloves? Will she judge me? How bad does it really hurt? It’s not that intimidating, I promise!

The most common question I get is, will it hurt? Yes. Yes, it’s going to be uncomfortable. The pain you feel is temporary, and will dissipate the moment I put pressure on the skin (which is pretty much a millisecond, ask anyone). I use hard wax, which doesn’t adhere to the skin like soft wax will (Fifty Year Old Virgin anyone?) which gives you a more comfortable waxing experience.

So now let’s get into what a brazlian wax actually is. There are so many names and variations, and different wax spas will have different terminology. At CG Wax Studio, a brazilian wax is everything in the front, as much or as little as you want (meaning you can leave a strip or a triangle [those are the only options, I’m not a magician] or go fully bare) and it includes the butt strip. A bikini full just doesn’t include the butt strip. A bikini line is just like it sounds; it’s the hair outside the underwear, and this option you can keep the undies on for your service.

What’s it like having your butt waxed? Honestly, I tell people this is the weirdest part, but the most pleasant surprise you weren’t expecting. You simply pull up your knees or flip over flat on your front, and I do the rest. It takes a minute or less, and doesn’t really hurt at all. The wax will feel a little hotter here, even though it isn’t, because your skin is pretty thin back there.

Now that we’ve covered the booty, let’s circle back to the beginning of your reservation. I will ask you if you’ve had a brazilian before, if you had a good experience, how much hair you’d like removed, and to please remove your clothes from the waist down, and hop on my table. I do remain in the room (I have sliding glass doors and can’t exactly make an inconspicuous entry) and turn around to get all the supplies ready for you. Once you’re on the table, you’ll butterfly your legs, and we will chat like we’re besties and this is just what we do on the weekends together. Normal stuff. And, because we are besties now, I never judge you, or anyone else that is on my table. All genitals are weird, none of them are gorgeous, and everyone thinks they have the weirdest vagina in the history of women. You don’t, because we all do. No two look the same. The takeaway here is that you’re unique! During the wax, we will endlessly guffaw as I pull out all your hair, and you won’t even notice (probably) that we’re done until I’m putting on moisturizer and telling you it’s time to get dressed.

We’ve already gone over after care at this point, and if you’re lacking the necessary items to take care of your skin between visits, I’ll make recommendations to you. Doing the home care is vital, my friends. You will have a much better waxing experience with me when you’re exfoliating and moisturizing at home like you should.

You’ll want to come back at about four weeks to do it all again. Though I will say that the second wax is always much easier than the first. You already know what to expect, so the nerves won’t be there, plus your hair will have already thinned out dramatically.

You can survive your first brazilian wax. It’s really worth not having to shave every day and to not have razor bumps. My waxes take about 15 minutes start to finish, and you’ll be happy you did it.
